TPMS warning light on? Sensor failed or battery dead? We diagnose, replace, and program TPMS sensors and valves at your location โ all without a garage visit.
TPMS stands for Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. It's a mandatory safety system fitted to all new cars sold in the UK from November 2014 onwards. The system continuously monitors the air pressure in each tyre and alerts the driver โ via a dashboard warning light โ if a tyre drops significantly below the recommended pressure.
There are two types of TPMS in common use. Direct TPMS uses a small wireless sensor mounted inside each wheel (or on the valve stem) that measures actual tyre pressure and transmits the reading to the vehicle's ECU. Indirect TPMS uses wheel speed sensors from the ABS system to detect pressure loss by measuring how tyre diameter changes as pressure drops.
Direct TPMS is the most common system in modern vehicles. The sensors contain a small battery that lasts typically 5โ10 years, after which the sensor fails and must be replaced. When this happens, the TPMS warning light illuminates โ and in the UK, this is an MOT failure point.
TyreBlitz carries a full range of universal programmable sensors and OEM sensors to cover all major vehicle makes. We also carry the diagnostic and programming equipment to pair new sensors with your vehicle's ECU.
Never ignore a TPMS warning light. Always check your tyre pressures first โ if pressures are correct, the sensor itself may have failed and needs replacing.
Direct TPMS sensors contain a non-replaceable internal battery. After 5โ10 years, the battery fails and the sensor can no longer transmit. The warning light illuminates and won't go off until the sensor is replaced.
Valve-stem mounted sensors are exposed to water, road salt, and contaminants. Corrosion can cause the sensor body or valve stem to seize, crack, or fail โ particularly on older vehicles.
Kerb strikes, pothole impacts, and rough road conditions can crack or break TPMS sensors, especially those mounted externally on the valve stem. Damage is often invisible from outside the tyre.
Incorrect tyre fitting procedure can damage TPMS sensors. We always use TPMS-safe fitting equipment and handle sensors carefully during all tyre changes.
Electronic interference or sensor programming issues can cause TPMS malfunction. Our diagnostic tools can reset and reprogram sensors without physical replacement in many cases.
Fitting new wheels, changing to seasonal tyres on different rims, or replacing tyres can require TPMS sensor transfer, reprogramming, or replacement of the valve core components.
We handle all types of tyre valves and TPMS configurations:
Individual battery-powered sensors inside each wheel. Transmit real-time pressure data wirelessly. Most common on cars made after 2014. Battery-powered โ must be replaced when battery fails.
Service: Diagnose, replace, program to vehicle ECU.
Standard rubber valve stems fitted to steel wheels and many alloys. Inexpensive and simple, but degrade over time from heat and UV exposure. Should be replaced with every tyre change.
Service: Replace during tyre fitting or as standalone service.
Aluminium or brass valve stems used on alloy wheels. More durable than rubber, but can corrode and seize โ especially with aftermarket alloys. TPMS sensors often use this mount style.
Service: Replace during tyre fitting; TPMS-compatible versions available.
Some manufacturers use proprietary TPMS sensors that require exact OEM replacements. We carry OEM sensors for all common makes, plus universal programmable sensors that can replicate most systems.
Service: Diagnose OEM requirement, source and fit correct sensor.
Since 2012, TPMS has been included in the MOT test. If your TPMS warning light is illuminated during the MOT test, your vehicle will fail. The tester is required to fail the vehicle if the TPMS warning light is on at the start of the test, indicating a fault with the system.
If you have a TPMS warning light on your dashboard, get it diagnosed and rectified before your MOT. Call TyreBlitz and we'll sort it at your location โ no garage visit required.
We connect our TPMS diagnostic tool to your vehicle and identify which sensor(s) are causing the warning light, and the nature of the fault.
We explain what we've found โ battery failure, physical damage, pressure issue โ and provide an upfront quote before any work starts.
The tyre is dismounted, the faulty sensor or valve is removed, and the replacement is fitted. We use TPMS-safe equipment throughout.
New sensors are programmed to communicate with your vehicle's ECU using our TPMS programming tool โ vehicle-specific to ensure correct operation.
We verify the TPMS system is reading correctly on all four wheels and that the warning light has cleared before we sign off.
